Church of the Holy Spirit, Orleans, MA
About this project:
This Episcopal Church in Orleans, MA was built in 1935 as an eighteen foot by twenty-four foot building, described by its founder and first Rector as, "small, rude, rough, rambling, obviously homemade". The original building was fashioned from beams taken from an old inn; the front door came from Chelsea, MA and the latch on it from Pennsylvania; exterior handmade cypress shingles came from South Carolina. Both the parish and the church facilities have grown over the years, with the most recent expansion in 1999 adding a new parish center, improved church school facilities, meeting rooms, a new sanctuary to the church, and provisions for handicapped access throughout the church's buildings. Throughout all its renovations, the Church of the Holy Spirit, which has been described as a "hand-made" church containing many objects of interest hand-crafted by local artisans, has retained its warmth and charm as a "Cape Cod" church.
