Residential Erosion Control, Brewster, MA
About this project:
The area of beach and adjacent dune area on this residential property was in need of a "soft" bank stabilization solution, as defined by state regulations. A proposed fiber roll revetment was constructed and fronted by a drift fence. The construction held up during one of the worst winters that Cape Cod has seen in over 100 years. This use of fiber rolls, which are anchored into the ground and then planted with beach grass, is now utilized in many areas where the construction of a rock revetment is not permitted. This type of construction is also more cost-efficient than, and almost as effective as, a rock revetment.
Coastal Engineering's services included:
- Shorefront evaluation and consultation
- Land survey and hydrographic survey
- Sand transport studies
- Engineering design
- Environmental permitting and annual beach monitoring.
