Riverview Resort, Yarmouth, MA
About this project:
The owners of this time-share style resort located on Parkers River needed to replace an existing timber bulkhead. The original bulkhead, consisting of two timber walls with different heights, was failing and presented a safety hazard for the resort users. Stormwater runoff and sediment were being discharged directly into the waterway. A new bulkhead was constructed directly in front of the old bulkhead, utilizing the existing bulkhead wall for sedimentation control, which allowed the new construction to be completed with minimal disturbance. Because the existing anchoring system was also deficient, a new anchoring system was installed, using helical screw tie-backs for the taller wall and a “deadman” system for the shorter wall. In addition, an area of the existing sloped bank was backfilled and graded, providing a larger, grassy area for the resort users with no further encroachment into the waterway. Other enhancements included naturalized plantings along the edge of the bank, and an improved handrail system along the taller wall. The project transformed the outside recreational areas of the resort facility, which are now larger, safer, more useful, and more visually pleasing.
