Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Woods Hole, MA
About this project:
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI) is a private, non-profit research facility and the largest independent oceanographic institution in the world. Located in the village of Woods Hole, WHOI's shore-based facilities and campus encompass 219 acres of land and waterfront with 58 buildings, including administration buildings, dormitories, and laboratories. Because many of these wood-frame structures are of turn-of-the-century vintage with subsequent additions constructed over the years, WHOI has undertaken substantial building renovation and construction projects in order to maintain its expansive campus. Structural engineering evaluations, designs, and plans for these renovations, additions, and new construction projects have been an important part of each project's successful completion.
Coastal Engineering's services included:
- Structural investigation and feasibility studies
- Structural design and retrofit
- Construction contract administration.
